The infrared light transmission technology (IR) offers certain advantages whether it is for hearing enhancement and ADA compliance, or for language translation applications. The infrared signal does not penetrate through walls thus offering security to sensitive transmissions. This advantage is particularly valuable in court houses and other multiplex facilities such as movie houses. All receivers can be identical and used in anyone auditorium without interference or signal pickup from adjacent rooms. Two channel systems are available for simultaneous language interpretation, audio description or stereo transmission. Headset receivers, under-the-chin receivers and body worn receivers are all interchangeable with one another as long as the transmitting frequency is the same.

StarSound 600 two-channel large area infrared system (partially discontinued).

The StarSound 600 large area infrared assistive listening system is a two-channel system ideal for providing hearing enhancement simultaneous with language translation and audio description. The PE600E emitter panel covers areas up to 4,000 sq. ft. in an elliptical pattern. Greater coverage can be achieved by daisy-chaining additional emitter panels. StarSound 600 Hearing enhancement system The PE600E is transmitting on the interference-free frequencies of 2.3 and 2.8 MHz and can also be used for stereo transmission. Emitter panels are available in black and white.

Phonic Ear offers two styles of receivers with the StarSound 600 system. The PE602R and PE601R headset receivers operates on two AAA alkaline batteries, have 360 degrees reception and are hearing aid compatible. The PE602R is a two-channel headset, so users can choose from two simultaneous programs. The PE601R is a stereo headset receiver. The body-worn PE600R receiver (discontinued) allows the user to choose between two different programs. It can be used with a variety of separate listening options. Unlike the heavier headset/receiver combination, the lightweight listening options ensure comfort no matter how long the listeners wear the system. The PE600R operates on two AA alkaline batteries or two NiCad rechargeable batteries. The PE300C 12-pocket charger makes a convenient carry case/accessories organizer for portable applications.

StarSound 400 Single Chnl IR Hearing Enhancement System (discontinued).

The StarSound 400 large area infrared assistive listening system is ideal for providing hearing enhancement in court houses, cinemas, and other multiplex facilities. The PE420E emitter panel covers areas up to 12,000 sq. ft. StarSound 400 Hearing enhancement system in an elliptical pattern but can be daisy-chained with additional PE421E slave emitters to cover larger, obstructed, or highly absorptive areas. The transmitting frequency of the PE421E is switchable between 95 and 250 kHz.
